How do I apply filters effectively?
Now you know how to add filters. Below we have compiled three examples of how you can use filters to find interesting keywords for your business.
We recommend always applying the Search Volume filter. This way, you can set a lower limit above which you are ready to invest resources for optimization. |
1. Pick low-hanging fruit
Check for rankings on the second search results page, i.e., on positions 11-20. If you optimize these pages, they usually make it to page 1 with little effort. As you might know, page 1 is where the click-magic happens; very few people check out the second search results page.
Filter settings: Add the Position filter and set it to 11-20. |
2. Uncover keyword cannibalization
If two or more pages of a website rank similarly for the same keyword, this is called keyword cannibalization. These pages compete against each other, not allowing one page to establish good and stable rankings.
Learn more about keyword cannibalization, how it is caused, and how to prevent and fix it. |
Filter settings: Add the Result Grouping filter and set it to Multiple Rankings. |
3. Leverage long-tail keywords
Long-tail keywords are search queries containing three or more words, phrases, and questions. They usually have a comparatively low search volume, but a clear user intent and are usually not as competitive. That should make it easier for you to create helpful content and establish top rankings.
Filter settings: Add the Word count filter and set it to 3 and more words. |
